About NeighbourWood

We're a small company with a big idea: that the homes people need and the nature we've lost can rebuild each other.

Our story

NeighbourWood began in Ireland, where we designed a way to pair new homes with permanently protected native woodland, and found out just how many families want to live that way.

In 2026 we brought it to England. Biodiversity Net Gain rules already make new development help pay for nature's recovery. We believe that money can even do more when it's coupled with the homes villages need, and that people have access to the habitat that's being restored. So we moved our family here to build it in person.

Our mission

Create thriving, affordable communities paired with native habitat restored for good, and help others to adopt the model at scale.

What we believe

  • Integration, not extraction. Development should give back more than it takes.
  • Affordability through nature. Restored nature helps pay for homes people can afford.
  • Profitable purpose. The business has to pay its way, so the good it does can grow.
  • Transparency always. We're open about costs, methods and challenges. We say what's done and label what's still an intention.
  • Collaboration first. We'd much rather partner than compete: with landowners, villages, housing partners, habitat banks and everyone working to build homes and restore nature.
  • Perpetuity. Nature protected for good, well beyond the legal minimum.
  • We live what we build. We'll live in a community we help to build, alongside our neighbours.

Where it started

Our Irish work continues at a smaller scale, including research with Trinity College Dublin on measuring nature's recovery.
